Robotics

Wire Your Arduino

Use the diagram to wire your Arduino.

Code Your Arduino

Add the program to your SMARS Arduino, so that you can code it to do what you want it to.

Final Challenges

Put your skills to the test with these 2 final challenges. Work in your super teams to complete them.

Mod Your Bot

You learned to design a license plate for your robot in OnShape. You could also use Tinkercad (instructions below).

Now make some new modifications for your robot. They can be functional or just creative. There is a link to the Clawbot in OnShape below.

Code Your Arduino

Add the program to your SMARS Arduino, so that you can drive it with your phone/tablet or with a remote.

  • 1. Install the MicroBlue App

    2. Download the attached zip folder.

    3. Unzip the folder.

    4. Open the SMARS_MicroBlue.ino sketch in the Arduino IDE

    5. Change your device name - see figure below

    6. Upload the code to your Arduino/SMARS robot

    7. Open the MicroBlue App

    8. Turn on your SMARS Robot

    9. In the MicroBlue App, select your SMARS Robot (note, there might be many devices in the lab)

    10. Then go to the commands screen and send the text command "drive" to your robot. That activates drive mode.

    11. Then switch to the "Drive" screen and start driving your SMARS Robot. The "D-Pad" is easier to use than the "Joystick" mode.

  • 1. Download the attached zip folder.

    2. Unzip the folder.

    3. Open the Arduino sketch for Infrared Remote in the Arduino IDE.

    4. Upload the code to your Arduino/SMARS robot.

    5. Turn on your SMARS Robot.

    6. Use the remote to drive your robot.
